Prince George, BC
Police honoured during Crime Stoppers month!
The Prince George Crime Stoppers Society is honouring local police
officers as part of Crime Stoppers Month activities!
One police officer and a specialized unit have been chosen by the
volunteer board of directors to be honoured this year. These officers are being recognized because
they have made extra efforts to support the program in 2019, a record breaking
year for the program. This year marks
the 7th annual presentation of these awards.
Officer of the Year
The Prince
George Crime Stoppers Society would like to congratulate the Crime Stoppers Officer
of the Year, Constable Kevin Reid.
Cst. Reid
is now in his twelfth year with the RCMP, graduating from the RCMP’s Training
Academy in 2008. He has completed all of his service in Northern BC, including
six years in Smithers and three years in New Hazelton prior to moving to Prince
George in 2017. Cst. Reid has completed
most of his service as a uniformed frontline investigator, however has recently
completed a year with the Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit. Cst. Reid
thoroughly enjoys working in a team environment investigating drug related
offences. Originally from New Brunswick, Cst. Reid has made Prince George his
home and plans to stay long term. In his spare time, Cst. Reid enjoys coaching
his children and other children participating in the Prince George Minor
Basketball program.
"I’m
very honoured to be the recipient of this award and thank the Crime Stoppers board
for the consideration" says Cst. Kevin Reid. "Crime Stoppers is
a great program that gives the public an anonymous way to provide information
to the police, so that we can use this information to make arrests and seize drugs,
which make Prince George a safer place."
Watch of the Year
The Prince
George Detachment’s Street Crew Unit is the 2019 Watch of the Year. Although
not a traditional Watch, the Street Crew Unit work varying shifts around the
clock to keep this community safe.
Congratulations
to the Prince George RCMP’s Street Crew Unit, led by Sgt. Chad Chamberlain.
Through his leadership, the Street Crew Unit has utilized vital information provided
through the Crime Stoppers program to seek out and arrest those criminals doing
the most harm in our community. Their
efforts have made a significant impact on both the drug trade and property
crime in Prince George and surrounding areas throughout 2019.
“Our team’s success depends on
information from the public through programs like Crime Stoppers" says
Sgt. Chad Chamberlain, the supervisor in charge of the Street Crew Unit.
"We want to thank the Prince George Crime Stoppers Society for this award
and encourage the public to utilize this anonymous program to provide
information about criminal activities in our community. Every bit of information helps remove drugs
from the street and put criminals in jail."
Crime Stoppers is a partnership
between the community, law enforcement and media. The program empowers regular
people to fight back against crime in our community by creating awareness and
providing an anonymous way for residents to report suspicious or criminal
activity. Those anonymous reports are passed along to our police partners who
then use the information in their investigations.
“On behalf of Prince George
Crime Stoppers, I offer our sincerest thanks to all members of the RCMP in
Prince George who investigate Crime Stoppers TIPS and for their continued
support of the Crime Stoppers program” says Robin Craig, President of Prince
George Crime Stoppers. “In particular, I
would like to congratulate the Prince George Crime Stoppers Officer of the
Year, Constable Kevin Reid, and the Watch of the Year, the Street Crew Unit.”
The Board would also like to thank the citizens of Prince George and
surrounding areas for providing a record amount of TIPS with vital information
that has led to arrests and seizures in 2019!
There are two ways to anonymously submit a TIP to Prince George Crime Stoppers,
24 hours a day, 365 days a year:
·
The traditional method of calling 1-800-222-8477(TIPS)
and providing information to a trained operator is still very popular;
·
As an increasingly popular alternative, you can
submit a typed TIP via our website from a computer or mobile device at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca.
When providing TIPS, please
be as detailed as possible and remember we don't
want your name, just your information! All methods are completely anonymous!
